Love… {part 1}

I am at a little bit of a standstill on the kitchen renovation,  just waiting for the countertop to arrive, the kitchen sink AND the contractor that is going to be removing a partial wall for me.  Unfortunately everything can’t happen at once, so I need to find something to occupy my time…..and take my mind off the mess I am now dealing with.  Ugh.

You get to hear how many SIMPLE things that I love in life.   I also want to hear YOURS!!   (read the incentive below)

Valentines day is approaching, and honestly we do NOT do “Valentines” day.   Personally (don’t flame me)  I think it is stupid.  An unnecessary  commercialized Hallmark holiday pretty much sums up my opinion.   You may feel differently, and that is fine, but since this is MY blog, I get to make the rules.  hahahahaha!!!!   JOKING.  (kind of).

I do not need February 14 to express my love.  I also don’t need it expressed to me by anyone specifically ON that day.  I have been with Glenn for nearly 30 years  (dating and married).   I can assure you, I have never given OR recieved  a gift on Valentines Day, even back when we were 15 and began dating.  Nope.  Notta. Never.    We both know better, and we are good with that agreement.  🙂   it works for US.  You celebrate howEVER you wish, but we do not.

Now…it is a given, I love my kids, my husband, my home, my extended family, etc etc etc…..

Here are a few SIMPLE pleasures that always bring a smile to my face and a certain warmth to my  heart.  (and some others I am just plain obsessed with)   LOL

1.  Mc Donalds Iced Coffee.

Yes, I can make my own, but there is something about  treating yourself from a plastic glass at a drive-thru.  MUCH to my dismay though, I went to get one yesterday AND…..get this.  The price has gone UP about a month ago, and as of yesterday the SIZE went DOWN!!!!   what in the heck is up with that?????     I may need to boycott this idea.  Just sayin……

2.  Magazines.

I admit it,  I LOVE LOVE LOVE magazines.  I never go anywhere with out a magazine in hand (and usually five).  …and I gladly recycle them and pass them on to my sisters after I am done with them.  (I think they pass them on when they are done as well).  I also use them well in the salon for customers to read…, this obsession and splurge  is completely justified in my mind atleast.  🙂   It is a GREAT day when I am at the grocery store and I see all new issues sitting on the rack. I can hardly think straight!!! So much reading and even MORE inspiration!!!!  I also have alot of “rules” when it comes to MY magazines, but I will leave those details for some other time.  Anyone that knows me very personally already knows how to follow these “rules” ….and they do NOT question them.   LOL

3.  Being a Libra.

Yep, this concept sent me a little for a loop when some scientist implied I may need to CHANGE my Zodiac sign.  Hellooooo….I think NOT.  I think that man just had too much time on his hands.  If you read the qualities of a Libra and how much they strive for balance….you are seeing what I am all about.   I am a Libra.  End of topic.  Thankyouverymuch.

That is all for today. I do not want to bore anyone.  { gasp }

I have a lot more in my mind, and I will keep posting them until we reach Valentines Day itself, or my kitchen is complete.  Which ever comes first.  I am betting Valentines Day will happen first.  😦

Now…..SIMPLE things.  What do you LOVE????  (or comment on the things I love)   post only those unexpected things.  Those things that just make ya wanna smile.   I know EVERYONE loves their spouse and kids…..or atleast SHOULD!!!!    Who knows?  if you share the little pleasures in life that you have come to love….maybe all the blog readers will give them a try as well!!!!

The best part???  all comments from each “Love” blog post will  go into a drawing for a very special HANDMADE item from me, shipped straight to your door.   Guaranteed, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it too!!!!  hopefully you will love it even more than Valentines Day.  🙂

Ready, set……GO  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok i have to say i know you love your extended family BUT..if ANYONE of them were to SO MUCH as to EVEN think of TOUCHING your magazines before you do… they would certianly no longer be your “extended family” :O
I have a new LOVE since last night and it is ALL thanks to the “BOSSY” side of you..PARENTHOOD!!! what a wonderful show.
And I love my dog .There is something to say for that unconditional love 🙂

  2. simplyaltered Says:

LOL LOL LOL !!!!!!!!! you ain’t a kidding. EVERYONE knows better than to TOUCH the magazines ahead of me, let alone think they could READ them!!!???? Arrrrgggghhhhhhhhhh

    Simple things I love:

    1) Fresh fallen snow. Its purity and glow it gives when the sun or moon reflects off it is just peaceful & majestic.

    2) A good book. It takes me to places I could never go. My mind is allowed to escape the chaos of the world for a few moments. And yes, I might even get obsessed with finishing the book before I’m able to do anything else. My latest read, and you should definitely read it Kelli, is “The Christmas Jars.” It is SOOOO good! And I read it in about 3 hours.

    3) “Hold us Together” song on Christian radio by Matt Maur I think???? Anyway–its beat and message is very catchy and brings a smile to my face as I CRANK up the radio:)

    4) A child learning to read. Our oldest is just starting to read pretty good and last night he read the devotions after supper. I have to had admit this momma was beaming with pride, with a tear in her eye. :’)

It is truly the simple things in life that bring the most joy and memories! And I too don’t need Valentines Day to say or show how much I LOVE the people in my life. 🙂

    • simplyaltered Says:

Ok Melissa, I am going to read reviews on that book and also You Tube that song!!! I gotta check them both out now!! 🙂
You have a perfect list of simple pleasures, huh??? I love it!!!

  4. Melissa VD Says:

Oh I have one more and I could NOT live without it…seriously. Not to mention others around me would run if I didn’t have it….

    5) COFFEE!!!!! As soon as I hit the kitchen in the morning, first thing I get is a cup of coffee. Its like Christmas EVERY morning!

    • simplyaltered Says:

I have SO tried multiple times to acquire a taste for coffee and I just can’t do it. I love to smell it…..don’t love to drink it, unless it is iced and from McD’s. LOL

  5. Sherry Says:

I LOVE magazines too, but I am labeled a deboner, do you know what that is…can’t stand all the post cards and hard pages of advertising in the magazines, they must come out first…and my granddaughter (7) does that too…do you suppose she has been around grandma too much…gotta LOVE granddaughter’s especially when they take after you, hahaha ❤

    • simplyaltered Says:

I know what deboning is all about. I do it too, but in a different way, and no one has figured it out yet!! haha!!!

  6. Sherry Says:

I guess the heart thingy didn’t work on this blog page???

  7. BLT Says:

    Can I say this here?

People are made to be loved and things are made to be used….
The confusion in this world is that people are being used and things are being loved.

Not sure who said it. But I love it!

    • simplyaltered Says:

yes, you can say it here. 🙂
I like it and agree with it, but it is also human nature to love some “things” as well… long as you do not become too materialistic ….and in my opinion, do things as frugally and as humble as possible.

  8. machita Says:

oh yeah i forgot coffee!!! i love love love double love the smell and taste of my Dunkin Donuts!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  9. Diana Weirich Says:

I love sitting in my sewing room and watching the squirrels and the birds eat the goodies I have put out for them. The cardinals are beautiful, the squirrels are funny and the rest of the birds just love to fly around and eat, eat, eat. simple, but I love it.

  10. Roxie Morrison Says:

This week – I love…..when I can get a smile out of my sister.

  11. Julie Says:

My favorite way to start the day is make a fresh pot of coffee, curl up in my big red leather chair next to my fireplace, and read the morning paper. This day starter works best if I can get up before the kids…or can work equally well if I get the kids off to school and then do the above ritual.

    • simplyaltered Says:

I want to come to your house!!!! I am assuming you have a gas fireplace??? I want one. I have a woodburning one, so I can only curl up AFTER the wood has been hauled in from the porch, firestarters strategically put into place, nursing them to actually make a roaring fire etc etc etc…….kind of spoils the mood. 🙂 haha. I love it, just alot of work somedays.

  12. Katie Says:

    BLT – well said!

With that, I LOVE saving money and getting deals. When I read you buy your magazines on the newsstand and not with a super discounted subscription – well – GASP! I’m telling myself you just read too many titles to subscribe to just a few?

    I also LOVE Diet Coke.

    • simplyaltered Says:

I subscribe to some and some I buy on the newstands. But like I said, it is about my only SPLURGE and I completely recycle and reuse and repurpose them, so ….well justified.

  13. V.Eatwell Says:

What do I love, aside from my husband, sons and extended family:
    1. The smell of soil that has been freshly turned over in the spring when field work begins.

    2. Freshly mowed hay!

    3. A walk along the sandy beach of the ocean on Amelia Island.

    3. Quilting.

    4. The smell of Lilies-of-the-valley and lilacs in spring. (Yes, I am SOOO ready for spring! We have had over 75 inches here in MN, and it started the first part of November. Way too long for winter.)

    5. The best for last – Simply Altered Blog and your laundry soap recipe!! 🙂

    • simplyaltered Says:

awww….thank you for including Simply Altered soap in a few of your favorite things!! 🙂
Send the snow south. I want more!!! 🙂

  14. LaVonne Says:

What do I love beside my most wonderful husband? He is #1 on my list for sure.

#2 I LOVE getting doggie kisses from my two favorite dogs, Dixie and Sadie! There is nothing in the world like the love and devotion of a dog. My girls are always happy to see me, anytime of day, no matter what! And when I am having a bad day, there is nothing like their love to cheer me up!!!

#3 Chocolate! it will always put you in a good mood!

  15. Lori Says:

Kelli, I must say that I LOVE your blog. You always have so many helpful hints and money saving ideas. I appreciate your sharing.

I, too, love your Simply Laundry Soap & Simply Window Cleaner. My husband thinks I am nuts that I go to all of the trouble to make these concoctions, but, nontheless, he’s impressed with the outcomes of such concoctions. Thank you for sharing.

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day or Sweetest Days either. Who needs a dedicated day to show your admiration for one another?

    • simplyaltered Says:

….and I love to hear that you LOVE my blog!!! 🙂 Thank you so much and for continuing to use the cleaners and laundry soap. Aren’t they WONDERFUL??????

  16. Clara Dvorak Says:

    1. The giggles of a child.
    2. Good friends.
    3. Good Books
    4. first love
    5. Jesus

  17. Kattee' Says:

My nice H O T bath in the evening!

  18. Lana Schippers Says:

I love the fact that it like 30 some years to realize I love living by myself…well and my 3 dogs. I love doing nothing…doing everything…eating when I want, going to bed when I want…redecorating…remodeling….retracting either….I just would have saved so many people so much grief had I known….that I would love love love living by myself so much. 🙂

    • simplyaltered Says:

you know what I say to THAT lana!!!!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I hear ya loud and clear!!!!!!!!!!!!! just every now and then I get to “pretend” I am you!!!
